SKIN SENSITIVITY

Everyone has different skin. One's skin is sensitive, the other is dry and the other suffers from an oiled T-zone. With any skin type, certain product ingredients can suddenly cause problems and compromise the skin to do its job. The most common symptoms of sensitive skin are then: redness, inflammation, irritation, sensitivity or even an allergic reaction.

Temperature changes, spicy foods, and alcohol consumption can all be triggers to irritate and sensitize the skin. Your skin can look completely different during the winter than during the summer.

The skin can evolve depending on many external and internal factors during the aging process. Hormonal changes, prescriptions of medication, moving to a different climate, a change in lifestyle (stress, sleep, exercise) can all be triggers that play a big factor in your skin.

How can I treat the redness?

Look for products that are free of harmful ingredients such as fragrances, alcohol, sulfates, parabens. These can take care of sensitive and irritated skin one by one. By adding aloe vera and antioxidants, you can calm and combat environmental aggressors.

What products should I avoid if I'm prone to skin redness?

Sensitive skin is prone to exfoliation, so definitely avoid scrubs, AHAs, BHAs. These are hydroacids, both of which can be found in different variants:

  • cleaning agents
  • toner
  • moisturizers
  • scrubs
  • peels
  • masks

The purpose of these AHAs and BHAs is to exfoliate the skin. In other words, depending on the concentration, they can gently remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface, or it can remove the entire outer layer.

What measures can I still take to protect my skin?

People with sensitive skin should follow a regular daily cleansing schedule. A good example of this is a mild facial cleansing in the morning and a deep cleansing in the evening. Following this daily can reduce the redness.
